Stain - the bane of every of every homemaker's existence. While most carpets these are treated to make them stain resistant, a completely stain-proof carpet has not been invented (yet). The best way to get rid of stain is to wipe them off as soon as they are spilled. The longer you leave it on, the harder it will be to remove them. But you can't live your life watching out for every spill in the house. Here are 10 ways to remove stains from your carpet:
1. Always have a clean, white cloth that is highly-absorbent ready. You want to use white cloth so that you can avoid the transfer of dye and make it easier to monitor your progress.
2. For caffeinated liquids, milk, juice and ketchup, dilute some detergent in water and then dab (not wipe) on the stain. Let it stand for 15 minutes, then use a white cloth to soak up the remaining liquid.
3. You can also use baby wipes to wipe away coffee spills on your rug.
4. If you would rather use natural ingredients, use white vinegar for stains. Vinegar breaks down the dirt quickly. If the stain is too dark or big, add borax a salt and vinegar mixture. For hard-to-remove stains, use a cornstarch and vinegar mixture.
5. Spilled some red wine on your carpet? Dilute the color by pouring white wine, then wipe it off with a sponge. Put salt on the stain and let it stand for 10 minutes, then vacuum.
6. When the stain has been left for too long and have dried out, you can use a spoon or a blunt spatula to scrape it off. Once the dirt has been removed, use a tough-acting stain removal.
7. If your little one left chewing gum on the carpet, freeze it with an ice cube and then scrape. If there are remaining residues, use a vacuum cleaner to scoop it off.
8. You can buy a WD-40 from any home improvement center for those ink stains. After spraying it on the stain, clean the area with soap and water.
9. For dirt and mud, vacuum the dirtied first, then pour some detergent on the spot. Wipe off with lukewarm water.
10. When the stain has become insidious and penetrated deep in the carpet, you might need to hire a professional cleaner. Removing it yourself might just exacerbate the problem, so leave it to the experts.
Most of the time, a timely action on your part will solve your stain problems. Whether you prefer buying cleaners from the grocery or mixing your own, always have one ready so that you can immediately act and remove them.
