Household Cleaning Tips: Using Vinegar

Vinegar: it’s probably sitting on your pantry shelf right now; waiting for you to make your next batch of Italian salad dressing or whatever other culinary uses you have for it. However, have you ever thought to use it for household cleaning? It literally has over 100 simple uses, but this article will review some of the most simple and clever uses for Vinegar as a cleaning agent.

Have you ever noticed the stench coming from your garbage disposal? I know I have, and eventually, it becomes overwhelming. The natural buildup of bacteria from decaying food within your garbage disposal causes an odor to emit, gradually getting worse and worse. Don’t put up with that smell. Get rid of it by simply taking 1/2 cup of warm Vinegar and 1/2 cup of Baking Soda and put it down the sink and run it through the disposal for a couple seconds. Then, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. After the short wait, run hot water through your garbage disposal to completely clean it out. The Vinegar smell will go away after a few minutes.

Have you ever noticed your microwave getting dirty? Clean it up! Get a microwave-safe bowl and add 1/2 cup of Vinegar and 1/2 cup of water into the bowl. Bring the water/Vinegar mix to a boil inside of the microwave for a few minutes. Once complete, simply wipe down the loosened junk on the walls of your microwave and have a clean and deodorized microwave.

Lime buildup can destroy your chrome sinks and appliances. Get that lime off quick and easy by mixing together 2 tablespoons of salt and 1 teaspoon distilled Vinegar which will form a paste. Apply that paste to the lime buildup, let sit for 1 minute, then scrub off the lime buildup to reveal your shiny lime-free chrome fixtures.

This trick is probably one of the simplest. Get rid of the food stains and stuck food on your Tupperware and plastic bowls by simply adding vinegar to the bowl and scrubbing off the stains and stuck food.

Overtime your counter-tops will get dirty and start to emit an odor. To get rid of it, simply soak a cloth in Vinegar, and wipe down the counter-tops. They will smell fresh and look much cleaner. 

You may notice your refrigerator smelling odd with stains all over the shelves. Even with the baking soda inside the refrigerator, this can happen. Clean it quickly and simply by 1 cup of water and 1 cup of Vinegar to a bowl and soaking a cloth in it. Then, wipe down the shelves and walls of your refrigerator for a clean and fresh-smelling fridge.
